Thorney Island Circular Walk - Chichester Harbour


A walk along the shoreline of Chichester Harbour around the perimeter of Thorney Island with splendid views over the harbour.

Terrain details: Mostly shoreline path. NB You will have to cross MoD land and give your name and address to the guard at two security gates!

Amenities available on route: Toilets - are available in South Street car park, Emsworth. Cafés - there are several cafés in Emsworth, also there is a café called Boaters at Thornham Marina on the walk route. At weekends in Prinsted the Sea Scouts often serve refreshments from the Scout Hut next to the parking area. Pubs - there are several pubs in Emsworth, The Lord Raglan has a small harbourside garden, and the Blue Bell in South Street serves locally caught fish.
How to get there: As an alternative, you may wish to drive and park in the small free parking area in the village of Prinsted (map ref. SU 766051), signposted off the A286 east of Emsworth, and omit the extra mile to join the route to and from Emsworth. By car - Parking (pay and display) in Emsworth is available in two car parks, the nearest is in South Street (off the village centre) and the other (and cheaper one) can be found just to the north of the roundabout on the A259, on the right behind a local shop. By bus - Service 700 runs from Chichester to Havant which stops in Emsworth. For bus information telephone: 01903 237661. By train - regular service from Chichester and Havant stopping at Emsworth.
