Chidham Circular - Chichester Harbour
This is a 6 mile walk around the peninsula of Chidham in the heart of Chichester Harbour, with splendid views over three of the four channels that make up the harbour, Thorney, Bosham and the main, Chichester, channel.
Walking Route Details:
County: West Sussex
Distance: 6 miles
Difficulty of walk: Moderate
Estimated time to complete walk: 2
Terrain details: Special note - this walk is not recommended for anyone with bad backs, weak ankles or knees as the route is very worn and stony on the western side of the peninsula due to progressive erosion of the shoreline along which the footpath runs. However, within the
next few years work on realigning the path will take place and the route should get easier.
Type of route: Circular
Starts: Cobnor Amenity Car Park(Grid reference: SU 794034)
Ends: as above(Grid reference: as above)
Amenities available on route: Pubs - The Old House At Home, which is popular for its beer and food. It is located at map ref. SU 786039). It is not on the described route but is nearby.
How to get there: By car - free parking is available in the Amenity car park for about 12 cars. Only the entrance track is seen from the road, which then turns a corner into the parking area. The whole car park is screened from the road and shoreline by trees and shrubs to minimise its
visual impact on this quiet area.
By bus - there are no bus services, however you may catch a bus to Farm Lane (map ref. SU 778055), Nutbourne, and then take the footpath south to the shoreline and then left round the bay to pickup the route as appropriate.
